Medical Imaging

Medical Img CT

Complete medical imaging services are available in Mauston to diagnose and treat patients. Images are produced by state-of-the-art equipment, and are stored digitally.  This allows staff members to easily share vital information with other key healthcare providers in order to quickly meet patients' needs.

At Mile Bluff, we provide the following services:

Bone Densitometry measures bone density, and helps to diagnose osteoporosis and assess a person's risk for bone fractures.

CT Scans
produce cross-sectional and 3-D pictures of the body. CT scans are useful because they can show several types of tissue, including lung, bone, soft tissue, and blood vessels, with great clarity.  This allows the radiologists to more easily diagnoses cancer, cardiovascular disease, infectious disease, trauma and musculoskeletal disorders.

Digital Mammography
is used to screen patients for breast cancer.  The technology can produce clear images within seconds.  At Mile Bluff, mammograms are available on a walk-in basis Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 4 pm.  In order to utilize this convenience, patients need to have established care with a provider and be free of any specific breast cancer concerns.

Interventional radiology provides minimally-invasive image-guided diagnosis and treatment of disease in every organ system.  It can be used to perform lung and liver biopsies, epidural steroid injections, and tube checks and changes.

Flouroscopy uses real-time digital imaging to evaluate body areas and organs. Contrast agents, like barium, are used to make the anatomy visible through the machine.  Fluoroscopy is used to study the upper gastrointestinal tract, lower gastrointestinal tract and esophagus.  Flouroscopy is also used to assist in catheter placements, and needed guided injections for spinal and joint procedures.

(Magnetic Resonance Imaging) offers a safe and efficient method of diagnosing many conditions without the use of x-rays.  In many cases, MRI can lead to early detection and treatment of disease without surgery or biopsy.  It is a non-invasive method of examining the bones and soft tissue of the body, including organs, muscles and tendons, and requires little patient preparation.

PET Scan
technology is available through a portable unit. It measures important body functions such as blood flow and oxygen use.  It uses a small amount of radioactive material to produce pictures that reflect both the structure and function of organs and tissues.  It is often used to detect cancer.

uses high frequency sound waves to produce images from inside the human body.  The sound waves' echos are recorded and displayed as a real-time visual image.  Ultrasounds are often used during pregnancy, but can also be used to detect small lesions in the breast and other tissues.

Virtual Colonoscopy
is a procedure that uses a CT Scan to produce detailed images of the inside of the colon and rectum. It is a safe, noninvasive exam.

uses radiation to produce images of the spine, abdomen, chest, pelvis, and other extremities.  Licensed Radiologic Technologists are trained to use the minimum amount of radiation necessary to obtain the needed results. This service is also available in Elroy, Lake Delton, Necedah, and New Lisbon.

Our Partnership with the University of Wisconsin - Department of Radiology

At Mile Bluff, we partner with the University of Wisconsin - Department of Radiology to provide medical imaging services.  While Mile Bluff has state-of-the-art equipment and a great medical imaging team, this partnership provides us with the radiologists to read the results of images we take.  Thanks to this partnership, imaging procedures and protocols that previously may have only been available at academic medical centers are being provided to patients in smaller patient-centered hospitals, like Mile Bluff.
