Mile Bluff Medical Center is offering Safe Sitter® classes to local students. Led by the Education Department, this one-day course is designed to prepare students in sixth through eighth grade to be safe when they are home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting. Lessons are filled with fun activities and role-playing exercises that teach students injury prevention and treatment, CPR, management of problem behaviors and the business side of babysitting.
This is a one-day course. Students will only need to register for one class to complete the program and CPR training.
Classes are available:
- Monday, December 23 - FULL
- Monday, March 24, 2025 - Register Here
Please note: Additional classes will be held in the Summer of 2025.
All classes will be held at Mile Bluff Clinic in Mauston from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm.
Pre-registration is required, and seating is limited. The course fee is $20 and includes class materials, a Safe Sitter® starter kit, and lunch.
Students will learn:
- Safety Skills: Students learn how to prevent unsafe situations and what to do when faced with dangers such as power failures or weather emergencies.
- Childcare Skills: Students learn tips to manage behavior that will help them stay in control of themselves and the children in their care. Students also learn the ages and stages of child development, as well as practice diapering.
- First Aid & Rescue Skills: Learning skills such as choking rescue and CPR is often students’ favorite part of the class. Students also learn a system to help them assess and respond to injuries and illnesses.
- Life & Business Skills: The ability to screen jobs, discuss fees, and greet employers will set students up for success now and in the future. Students practice these skills through various role play.
