Breastfeeding Support
When you begin breastfeeding your newborn, it's important to remember that
although breastfeeding is "natural," it still requires both
you and your baby to learn new skills. While things often go smoothly
once you become familiar with breastfeeding techniques, issues can sometimes
arise. If they do, breastfeeding challenges can worsen quickly, potentially
affecting your milk production or your baby’s nutrition. It's essential
to seek help right away if you encounter any difficulties.
If you need additional breastfeeding support, you can rely on the experts
at Mile Bluff to guide and support both you and your baby.
Mile Bluff resources for breastfeeding:
-
Childbirth education classes: These cover everything from what to expect when you’re expecting
- including an introduction to breastfeeding basics.
-
RN staff support: Nurses are your primary point of contact during your hospital stay after
delivery. All of Mile Bluff’s birthing center RNs are qualified
to provide general breastfeeding assessment and guidance to support early
breastfeeding.
-
Obstetric providers: Before and after delivery, your obstetric provider can answer any questions
you may have about breastfeeding. After delivery, they can assess how
you and your baby are doing with breastfeeding, and make referrals for
additional care, if needed.
-
Registered dietitians: With a referral, dietitians can help you set nutrition goals to support
you and baby while breastfeeding.
-
Lactation consultation: Active support and assessment from certified lactation consultants can
help you achieve success for however you choose to feed your baby. Consultations
are available in Mauston with our specially-trained nursing staff.
