Meet Our OB Team

At Mile Bluff Medical Center, our dedicated OB team is here to provide expert care and support throughout your pregnancy journey. We understand that every pregnancy is unique, which is why we offer a diverse team of healthcare providers to meet your individual needs and to ensure you receive comprehensive, compassionate care. While all of our pregnant patients deliver at Mile Bluff's Birthing Center in Mauston, we offer several locations for care before and after your delivery. We believe in a collaborative approach to healthcare, with our providers sharing information, coordinating treatment plans, and ensuring that your preferences and health remain our top priorities.

Obstetric Physicians

Our board-certified Family Medicine with OB (FMOB) physicians specialize in comprehensive obstetric care. This includes pre-conception counseling, routine prenatal visits, labor and delivery, and postpartum care. With decades of combined experience, our physicians guide expectant patients through every stage of pregnancy and childbirth. After four years of medical school, physicians complete three to four years of specialized residency and fellowship training to provide the highest quality care. They are highly skilled in managing both low-risk and high-risk pregnancies, performing water births, vaginal deliveries, and C-sections, as well as providing postpartum care. Additionally, they are family medicine physicians. This means that they can serve as your baby’s, your significant other’s, and your own primary care physician before and after pregnancy—ensuring continuous care for your entire family.

Certified Nurse Midwife

Our Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) provides comprehensive obstetric care, including pre-conception care, routine prenatal visits, labor and delivery, and postpartum care. CNMs first complete nursing training and work as licensed nurses for at least one year before pursuing advanced education in a graduate program specializing in midwifery. They specialize in low-risk pregnancy care while adhering to the midwifery model, which emphasizes compassionate, individualized, and holistic care.

Our midwife is skilled in performing vaginal deliveries, water births, and offering lactation consultations during the postpartum period. She works closely with our OB physicians to prioritize the health of you and your baby. Additionally, CNMs provide care for women, including preventive exams, contraception management, gynecologic care, and more. They can also care for newborns up to 28 days old but do not treat male patients older than 28 days.

Physician Assistants

Our Physician Assistants (PA-Cs) are highly trained healthcare providers and an integral part of our perinatal team. While PA-Cs do not perform deliveries, they provide pre-conception, routine prenatal, and postpartum care. PA-Cs typically complete two years of graduate education after college before becoming practicing providers. They can also serve as your primary care provider, allowing you to continue care during pregnancy with someone you already have an established relationship with. Our PA-Cs work closely with our OB physicians to ensure you receive high-quality care. When it’s time to deliver, your care will be transferred to one of our OB physicians for the birth. After delivery, your PA-C can follow up with you in the postpartum period and continue providing support and care.

Nursing & Lactation Consultants

Our Labor and Delivery Nurses (L&D nurses) are highly trained and certified in in-hospital pregnancy care. Mile Bluff always has L&D nurses available on-site to care for you when you arrive. Our nurses will be there to support you throughout your hospital stay, whether for your delivery or a pregnancy evaluation in the middle of the night. Several of our nurses are also certified lactation consultants, ready to assist you immediately after delivery and in the weeks that follow to help you achieve your feeding goals. For more information about this service, please see our Lactation Services.

FAQs

  1. Will I be delivered by the provider I’ve been seeing during my pregnancy?

All of our OB physicians, CNMs, and PA-Cs are committed to providing continuity of care. They believe patients receive better care when a connection is already established, which is why you will typically see the same provider or a small group of providers throughout your pregnancy. Once you’ve established care with a delivering provider, that provider will generally be the one to deliver your baby. In rare cases, if your provider is unavailable when it's time to deliver, you will be cared for by the provider on call that day.
  2. What happens if I need a C-section and my provider doesn’t perform them?

If you require a C-section and your provider does not perform them, they will contact the on-call C-section surgeon. Your provider will still accompany you to the operating room to assist the surgeon and/or care for your baby after delivery, ensuring continuity of care with someone you know.
  3. What training does Mile Bluff have for emergencies that may arise during my pregnancy

Mile Bluff is prepared for any emergency that may arise during your pregnancy. Our commitment to safety ensures that you will always receive the highest quality care. Check out our OB Team Education page to learn more about some of the safety measures we have in place.
